Category (Accounts)
Category is a broad way to define a security and, within a category type, you can have several categories to further define a security. For example, the category type Region could use the categories Foreign and Domestic.
Within account settings, there are two locations you can use Category:
Category allows you to select the specific category you want to override within the specific account or group. This field appears after you select a Category type in the Category Overrides panel. The Category Overrides panel lets you rename categories specifically for individual accounts or groups, and changes made on this panel will only show on that account or group's reports. This lets you change a individual client's category name from Equities to Stocks, for example, if that's their preference.
Once you choose the Category you want to override, click Add Category.
Next, you can provide the name for that category you want to show on reports under Category Name Override. Finally, you can optionally override the default benchmark for the selected category in Benchmark Override.
If you would like this feature enabled, please contact Customer Support at 866.525.8811 and choose option 3.
A category restriction restricts trades in a particular security category within an account or group. You can find this feature on the Rebalance & Trade Settings panel. Category lets you select the narrower security category you want to restrict, along with the Category Type and the Buy/Sell Restriction you want to add to that account or group. For example, a client asks not to purchase oil securities, so you restrict the Crude Oil category within the Sector category type.
