Group By Activity Type or Money Security
Applies to: | ||

This setting allows you to use the Transactions report as a basic accounting of transactions, as a transaction report with an emphasis on transaction type, or as a ledger that tracks the impact of every transaction on an account's cash balance and to see exactly how an account arrived at its current cash balance.
You might choose to use this setting if you want to create a report that's specific to certain transactions—for example, buys, sells, and income. It may be easier to interpret when transactions are partitioned to show only money securities, as opposed to a running a full chronological transactions list.
On the Transactions report, Group by allows you to do any of the following:
To use the standard Transactions report, set Group by to <None>.
To sort all displayed transactions by type, set Group by to Activity Type.
In this example, transactions are grouped first by activity and then by trade date. Subtotals are provided for each activity type.
To see a ledger of money security activity, set Group by to Money Security. If you set Group by to Money Security, the Transactions report will be filtered to display only cash securities. Within cash securities, you can choose to include or exclude certain securities. For example, you may want to include only transactions involving cash.
For more information on the Money Security setting, see See Cash-Impacting Transactions.
In this example, transactions are limited to only cash securities, and the Cash Impact and Cash Balance columns are added, showing the impact of each transaction as it occurs.
Functionality is the same in the PDF report templates as in dynamic reports.
