QUESTION
How are alternative investments tracked on the Tamarac platform?
ANSWER
While you can track alternative investments as traditional securities in a custodian feed, we recommend tracking alternative investments manual security snapshots.
Manual security snapshots offer the following advantages over custodian-fed data:
-
Better valuation tracking. Custodian positions must have both a quantity and a price, while snapshots track valuation directly. This makes snapshots a better fit for illiquid investments that get NAV updates on a quarterly or monthly basis.
-
Capital commitment tracking. Snapshots let you track capital commitments and outstanding capital on drawdown funds.
Third party integrations with partners including Canoe, iCapital, CAIS, and Arch, among others, all use Tamarac's snapshot data.
You can directly add or upload, edit, and delete manual security snapshots directly in the Tamarac platform.
